“When Extensa asked us to design a building for this site our design approach was to closely
respond to the local context. The principal elevations face east and west and have different design
solutions to each aspect.
Along Ferikoy Firin Sokak we adopted a 'formal' response to the surrounding streets by arranging
the accommodation so the apartments are stacked to form bays that are redolent of town houses,
thereby creating a vertical emphasis.
On the west side of the building facing the organic market we achieved a more 'informal' effect by grouping windows in
a horizontal arrangement. Also, balconies are located in a random pattern which is more 'organic' and in keeping with
the spirit of the market place.
The building includes a number of retail units at street level that are ideal for specialist food shops adjacent
to the organic market.
We sought to ensure that daylight penetrated all areas of the building by linking circulation areas
to a large central light well.
Extensa has been progressive in their development approach and equally we feel we have
responded by creating a design that will provide a delightful and enjoyable place where
people want to live.”
